Honorable Janet DiFiore

Hon. Janet DiFiore, a long-time member and friend of CLAW, is an accomplished Italian American jurist and public servant. Born to a family of Italian immigrants, in Mount Vernon, New York, DiFiore was attributes her Italian-American values as a strong influence on her career in public service. DiFiore attended C.W. Post College and later St. John’s University School of Law. She began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County, developing a reputation for fairness and integrity. She later served as a judge of the Westchester County Court and as Justice of the New York State Supreme Court. She served as Westchester County District Attorney.

DiFiore was appointed as Chief Judge by Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2016. During that time, DiFiore launched the “Excellence Initiative”, a modernization of the judicial system to increase court efficiency, transparency, and public trust.

DiFiore has been honored by numerous Italian American organizations, including the Columbian Lawyers Association of Westchester County, as a recipient of the Richard J. Daronco Distinguished Service Award. Both DiFiore’s leadership and commitment to justice have made her a true role model for Italian Americans pursuing careers in law and public service.
